English: Olympics The Modern Olympics have been a tradition of the world for many years now. It is a grand event that brings together the world with friendly competitions. In the modern Olympics there are multiple sporting events played from tennis to basketball and from the javelin to the freestyle swim. The winter Olympics are more modern and consist of sports played during the winter such as; snowboarding and figure skating. Bobsled is my personal favorite because it consist of teamwork. The modern Olympics, both summer and winter, are great events and bobsledding is a great winter sport because the modern Olympics bring together the countries of the world and because bobsledding takes team effort and cooperation. To begin, the modern Olympics are a series of games played between different countries of the world. In 1894, a Frenchman named Baron Pierre De Coubertin had an idea to revive the ancient Olympics. The first modern Olympics were held in the summer of 1895 in Athens, Greece (1). Thirteen different countries competed in the first modern Olympics. These countries include the U.S., Australia, and many other European countries (2). During the first Olympics, winners did not receive gold medals, for they were silver. Back in those days, gold was referred to as for royal people and was extremely expensive (2). The modern Olympics is a chain of games played in an event that brings together the countries of the world. Next, Bobsledding is a great sport because it requires collaboration of four individuals. Bobsledding is appealing because of how each person on the team must move the body in a simultaneously way in order for the bobsled to make turns. The U.S. bobsled team practices at Lake Placid, New York. Germany is predicted to win (3). Germany holds the current record at three minutes and twenty six point sixty five. This record is held by Germany’s Andre Lange (4). The U.S. Olympic male bobsled team is not favored for any medals. The female Olympic bobsled team has a chance to win a medal (4). Bobsledding is a great sport because of its many qualities including teamwork, skill, and determination. In conclusion, the modern Olympics and bobsledding are great things because the Olympics gathers the nations of the globe and unite them for friendly competitions and because bobsledding shows team effort and hard work. The Olympics have been in our history and traditions since the ancient times. Thanks to Baron Pierre we have kept the ancient tradition and games alive. Now, the Olympics have become a grand gathering of many countries coming together for fun. Also, in a bobsled team there are great characteristics.
